Gold
Ar(Au) = 196.966 570(4) since 2017
The name derives from the Sanskrit jval for "shine", the Teutonic word gulth for "shining metal", and
the Anglo-Saxon gold of unknown origin. The symbol Au derives from the Latin aurum, for Aurora, the goddess of dawn.
Gold was known and highly valued in prehistoric times.
