Periodic Table of the Isotopes

For over a century, the Periodic Table of the Elements has served as a guide to the world of elements by highlighting similarities and differences in chemical properties. To introduce students and teachers to the existence and importance of isotopes of the chemical elements, CIAAW has created the Periodic Table of the Isotopes.
The Periodic Table of the Isotopes is designed to help teachers and students understand that atomic weights are not constants of Nature. Ultimately, one may learn why isotope abundances vary, why isotopes are important in everyday life, and what applications isotopes have in fields from medicine, agriculture and food science, and environmental science.
In August 2016, IUPAC launched new interactive electronic version of the Periodic Table of the Elements and Isotopes. These new resources are created for educators and students at secondary and post-secondary levels, and to inform the public about the many uses of isotopes in our lives. They are based on educational practices that encourage engaged and active learning by students. The IUPAC Interactive Electronic Periodic Table and accompanying resources can be accessed at www.isotopesmatter.com.
The IUPAC Periodic Table of the Elements and Isotopes (IPTEI) for the Education Community, co-authored by N. E. Holden et al, has been published in Pure and Applied Chemistry (Pure Appl. Chem. 2018, 90, 1833–2092) and is an authoritative resource for the educational community. It is a element-by-element review and includes practical applications of isotopic measurements and technologies in forensic science, geochronology, Earth-system sciences, environmental science, and human health sciences, including medical diagnosis and treatment.
