Strontium Isotope Materials
Best suited for stable isotope studies is the 88Sr/86Sr isotope ratio. However, the majority of strontium isotopic analyses are focused on the determination of the radiogenic 87Sr for Rb/Sr dating or studies of material origin. Stable isotopic variations of strontium are used in provenance studies of water and food, for studying biological migration and environmental cycles, and in archaeometry and forensic science. Additionally, δ(88/86Sr) values are used as a paleo-thermometer since the values found in seawater corals reflect the water temperature during coral growth.
